To help Perodua  to achieve their sales target for 2015 (208k units)

The problem

In this case, the problem is that Perodua expects to achieve 6% growth (208k units) for 2015. However the reality is , as at July 2015, Perodua only able to sell 126k units. Therefore, Perodua unlikely able to achieve the sales target..(( Basel, barry, ahmed, reza )

Focusing question

Analyze the problem: (5Ws & 1H)

1. What happened?

Perodua was looking forward to a record breaking year. The market leader has set a sales target of 208,000 units for 2015, which is around 6% more than the 195,600 units the company managed last year. P2’s previous sales record was 196,100, achieved in 2013. But because of the challenging economic and the ringgit fall there’s slight shortfall in sales in the second quarter of the year, The decline in ringgit value impacts the company's operation cost in the long term and the cars prices  although the company claims it is still on target to rack up record sales of 208,000 units this year and as the perodua July 2015 reports shows, perodua only could able to sell 126k units.

The problem, however, is Perodua unlikely unable to achieve the sales target. While the company believe that they can achieve their sales target of 208,000 units for 2015. In truth however, due to challenging economic and day-by day ringgit depreciation Perodua unlikely unable to achieve the sales target.(Ahmed)

2. When did it take place?

This issue there is no specific date but it’s due to when the Malaysian ringgit start to weaken against foreign currencies, at that time Perodua considered increasing the car prices. The weakening ringgit has placed the auto industry in a difficult position of higher costs from imported components as it struggles to keep prices down to bring in sales when consumers seem to have cut spending and that resulted that the perodua unlikely unable to achieve their target sales of the year.(Ahmed)

3.Where did it take place?

Since perodua is globally recognised brand and export its cars to the worldwide markets, which means that perodua sells drop will not only affect local market, but surely it will also affect its global markets, in that case we can’t simply say that perodua’s failure of achieving their target sales of the year 2015 is only due to Malaysia local automotive markets but it will effect also overseas market.(Ahmed)

4. Why did it happen?

A misconception, by definition is a view or opinion that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding. Therefore, the cause of this misconception is due to over expecting their sales and not focusing on a realistic goal and number of sales, due to the fall of the Malaysian ringgit.(Basel)

5. Who is it about?

This misconception is a nation-wide issue therefore the whole Malaysian society is a risk because of this misconception. It affects the Perodua company in terms of sales. The fall of the ringgit will bring loss to the Perodua company’s sales. (Basel)

6. How did it happen?

As we pointed out earlier, faulty thinking or understanding causes misconceptions, therefore the problem occurred because  there is a lack of knowledge or faulty misunderstanding regarding the effects that the ringgit has on sales. Therefore, as a result of the lack of understanding on the condition of the ringgit fall, Perodua has over achieved their sales which, in fact, is almost impossible to fulfill at this period of time. (Basel)
