The government should promote the reading habit especially in rural schools through Guided Extensive Reading (GER) program. Various trials had been conducted on its implementation in rural areas back in 2003. This approach should be continued as it will help students to read extensively and improve their writing and communication skills at the same time. - Mr. Ooi Jeng Herng, is an English coach from Pusat Tuisyen Cahaya Gaya, Pulau Pinang

I believe the main reason behind this problem is the availability of well-trained teachers and the lack of infrastructure in the rural schools - Ms. Ong Siew Lan, a teacher from SJK (C) Kg. Baru Tampin who has been teaching English for 10 years now in the rural district

1) The students are embarrased to make mistakes and they feel that they are weak in English. They are not confident with themself when they have to talk, interact with the others in English. 

2) Students frustrated when related with the English pronunciation because they feel like despite their efforts, there is no progress in that area. 

3) They felt irritate due to the impassive attitide of the teacher. Thus, the felt no impulse to work by their own. 

4) They afraid being laughed when participating in class activities. They are worried not being able to understand everything that the teachers were explaining, sad about their lack of vocabulary that restricted them to participate in class, afraid of the teacher's and peers' feedback. 

5) Students feel worthless in class becuase other students can understand or speak better than them.

A person’s mental model explains the thought process about how something works in the real world. It is a representation of the surrounding world, the relationships between its various parts and a person's intuitive perception about his or her own acts and their consequences.

Understanding the mental models of those involved in the problem is important in order to understand how people think and to be able to design solutions that will be supported by the people.
